One IDEA team adds a window to their affordable home, while other team members guide the building process.
Attendees formed four IDEA groups and competed to see who could build the highest freestanding tower made of spaghetti and marshmallows in 18 minutes.
The four IDEA teams concluded the day by exploring the importance of the skill of navigation. The task was to build an affordable home using unknown materials. Once the teams received their package of M & Ms and glue, they immediately set to work on construction.

This exercise forced the IDEA teams to collaborate very quickly. Lessons learned about the nature of collaboration and teamwork were: 1) Diverse skills matter on a team. 2) The best organizations don’t wait for a crisis; they incorporate learning into their daily operations. 3) Identify the assumptions in our projects – the real customer needs, the cost of the services, the challenges in the communities we serve, and test them early and often.
